What to wear for your family photo session
I say, wear what you normally would! This is not the time to go out and buy special clothes that you would never normally wear. If you don’t wear high heels, then stick with your flats. If you love bright colors, then don’t go get a black sweater, just because you think you have to wear neutral colors.
But, you must make sure that your family looks cohesive. If everyone is wearing neutral colors and your daughter is wearing a hot pink polka dot dress with multi-colored striped tights, we may have a problem. Your family should be wearing mostly the same tones, but could be different colors. Try to make your color choices for the different outfits complimentary of each other. Don’t be afraid to throw in a colorful scarf for Mom’s neck, or a vest for young son. Find one outfit for one member of your family that you love, and work from that.
My only request to you as a family is that you try not to all wear matching outfits. When I make images for you, I want them to capture the individuality of each member. It is hard to do that when all the members are wearing the same color. I have a link HERE for some of my favorite looks for families to wear for photo sessions.
What to wear for your senior or teen session
Again, wear clothing styles that you are accustom to wearing. For summer sessions, sundresses and shorts with colorful tops work great. Don’t forget to include your favorite accessories like hats, scarves and earrings. Think about the setting you will have your pictures taken in. If we do an urban session, your best choices for outfits include jeans and riding boots with a leather jacket, or a fun dress with high heels and sassy hat. Want to do a country or farm setting? Get out your sundress and cowboy boots, or shorts and a tank with some fun boots.
Don’t forget to include items that mean something to you. Do you play sports? Bring your basketball or hockey stick. Are you in band or choir? Bring your instrument or choir robe. The options are limitless to what you could include to make your session memorable for you. A few ideas are shown HERE for you to get started.
